Art has the remarkable ability to transcend boundaries, cultures, and languages, providing us with a deeper understanding of the human experience. In the case of Armenian artists, their creations offer a window into a rich cultural heritage that spans millennia. Supporting Armenian artists goes beyond a mere appreciation for their talent; it is an act that preserves a vibrant cultural legacy, fosters creative expression, and promotes cross-cultural understanding. In this blog, we will explore the significance of supporting Armenian artists and the profound impact it can have on both the art world and society at large.
1. Preserving Cultural Heritage:
Armenia, nestled in the cradle of civilization, boasts a diverse and ancient cultural heritage. Throughout history, Armenian art has thrived, encompassing a wide array of mediums, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, music, dance, and literature. By supporting Armenian artists, we help ensure the preservation and continuation of this extraordinary cultural tapestry. Their works serve as a bridge between the past and the present, embodying the collective memory, traditions, and values of the Armenian people.
2. Promoting Artistic Expression:
Artistic expression is a fundamental human right, and supporting Armenian artists is a means of empowering them to express their creativity freely. By nurturing their talent and providing platforms for their work, we contribute to a thriving artistic ecosystem. Armenian artists often incorporate their unique experiences, history, and identity into their creations, offering a fresh and diverse perspective to the global art scene. Their art serves as a powerful medium for storytelling, challenging societal norms, and inspiring social change.
3. Cultural Exchange and Understanding:
Art has the capacity to build bridges between cultures, fostering dialogue, empathy, and understanding. By supporting Armenian artists, we open ourselves to new perspectives and narratives that enrich our own understanding of the world. Through their art, Armenian artists invite us into their cultural heritage, sharing stories, emotions, and experiences that transcend borders. By engaging with their work, we develop a deeper appreciation for the diverse range of human experiences and promote a more inclusive society.
4. Economic Empowerment:
Supporting Armenian artists contributes to the economic empowerment of the community. By purchasing their artwork, attending exhibitions, or commissioning pieces, we invest in their careers and provide them with financial stability. This support not only benefits the individual artists but also enables them to contribute to their local economies, art institutions, and creative industries. It creates a positive cycle of growth, encouraging the development of art infrastructure and providing opportunities for future generations of Armenian artists.
5. Challenging Historical Injustices:
Armenia has faced its share of historical challenges, including the Armenian Genocide in the early 20th century. Supporting Armenian artists is a way to acknowledge these historical injustices and honor the resilience of the Armenian people. Through their art, Armenian artists often explore themes of identity, memory, trauma, and resilience, shedding light on the lasting impact of historical events. By embracing their work, we help amplify their voices and contribute to the ongoing dialogue about justice, reconciliation, and human rights.
Supporting Armenian artists goes beyond a simple act of appreciation; it is an investment in the preservation of cultural heritage, the promotion of artistic expression, and the fostering of cross-cultural understanding. By engaging with their artwork, attending exhibitions, and sharing their stories, we contribute to a more inclusive and vibrant art world. Let us celebrate the creativity and talent of Armenian artists, ensuring their contributions continue to inspire and enrich us for generations to come.

A: afer graduating High School, in Brazil, I felt that I was loosing contact with the armenian alphabet, so I started doing lettering art in armenian, my goal was one word per day and this took me to the “a of art” project. So, the main reason was keeping myself close to our alphabet.
A: Before making any piece, I make sure that it represents myself, my feelings. It’s kind of a heart-thing. And knowing that people from the other side of the screen see it and identify, and smile or just agree with my passions (specially for coffee), this makes me inspired. The connection that I can get with people through my art, is very special and means a lot to me.
A: My main tool is my Ipad, but if I could take one for forever would be a sketchbook and a pencil, it never fails.
A: To be honest, nothing specific. I like discovering new tools, new techniques, and even styles, so I never fix myself too much on something. (Unless it is necessary for a certain piece)
A: Oh, how cliche would it sound if I say “I just feel it”?
A: It’s a little bit old and simple, but the “Kurdish, Syrian, Armenian lives matter”. It reached so many people, specially non armenians, and I felt really happy that my voice went so far. And the armenian font (with the penguins) it’s my love!
A: I like having “my place” to work, like my bubble. Does it sound strange? It helps me to create. I give importance to organization too, this absolutely helps on my workflow.
A: I focus on good, basically. This is the truth: I hate competitions, I hate this competitive thing. Since ever the idea of competitions always got me upset. Although a lot of people say that “you need to be competitive to prosper in life”, but I rather think that what is yours will find you, and just ignore the fact that people are competing for something. So, as you said, it’s a vibrant and colorful city, I focus on this and turn off the noise.
A: Being in contact with nature and video calls with my family is my re-re-re-center for life.
A: A huuuuge table where I can organize my stuff, a white wall where I can put photos with family and friends, and a window with a view to any beautiful spot in Armenia.
A: Don’t compare yourself with other artists. You can improve any skill by working on yourself, step by step. You don’t need to hurry. Do everything with all your heart, be patient and enjoy the journey.

Just like Tatik, we provide a platform for independent Armenian artists to showcase their work and collaborate with us in creating unique streetwear designs. By supporting Tatik, you are not only supporting us but also empowering Armenian artists from all around the world. In this blog series, we aim to introduce you to our artists and give you a glimpse into their creative journeys. Today, let's meet Natasha Simonian.
Q: How did you start making art? Why do you make art?
A: As a child, one of my favorite pastimes was drawing. I would spend hours capturing the view from the balcony of our old house in Beirut, Lebanon. Little did I know that I was laying the foundation for my future involvement in art. As a teenager, I realized that art was my true passion, and I pursued it at a higher level, honing my skills. Creating art brings me immense joy and allows me to escape from everyday worries. It also helps me connect with my Armenian and Lebanese heritage, embracing my cultural roots and strengthening my sense of belonging.
Q: What inspires you? What inspired this piece/idea?
A: My main inspiration stems from my Lebanese/Armenian background. Living abroad has made me realize the significance of the intricate details within our societies. I strive to convey these nuances through my art, sometimes in a sarcastic or humorous manner. Other artists also inspire me greatly. Exploring their portfolios feels like meeting new people, as their artworks often reflect their character and personality. Additionally, traveling to different countries and visiting museums and workshops broadens my artistic perspective.
Q: What is your most important artist tool? Is there something you can’t live without in your studio?
A: Currently, I'm primarily focused on digital art. This means that as long as I have access to a computer, any sunlit room can serve as my studio.
Q: Is there an element of art you enjoy working with most? Why?
A: I find myself captivated by creating patterns, often combined with muted colors. I can't pinpoint a single reason for this preference, but there's something about geometry that perfects an artwork in my eyes.
Q: Is there an artwork you are most proud of? Why?
A: I have a deep affection for artworks that incorporate Armenian patterns, such as the "Armenian Pattern." One particular piece holds special meaning for me as it was inspired by the original needlework of my partner's grandmother (tatik!). By transforming her work into a more modern-looking artwork with vibrant colors, I pay homage to her craftsmanship. Sharing this piece with the broader Armenian community fills me with immense pride.
Q: What are your go-to methods for setting up a space that helps cultivate your workflow?
A: COFFEE, SUN, and MUSIC are essential elements of my creative process. They maintain my efficiency at a high level throughout the day. Additionally, engaging in small but motivating conversations with my partner helps me stay focused and make progress.
Q: When it comes to home decor, what does your dream room/space look like?
A: I envision my workspace as a sunlit haven, vibrant and filled with plants, books, and wall art. I love having a desk with a view of lush greenery outside, preferably with west-facing windows to enjoy beautiful sunsets at the end of the day.
Q: What advice would you give someone aspiring to get in touch with their artistic side?
A: I believe that every budding artist needs some alone time away from work, stress, and the hustle of everyday life. Personal experiences have taught me that trying art and even
experiencing failure is not wrong, but giving up is. Embrace the journey and keep exploring your creative side.
We hope this article has given you a closer look into the artistic world of Natasha Simonian. Stay tuned for more insights and stories from our talented featured artists. Join us in supporting their work and celebrating the rich cultural heritage they bring to Tatik Streetwear.
